Never in the history of investing has there been a bigger movement of educating and informing investors about the importance of direct registration of shares. Typically, shares are usually held in brokers, such as Fidelity, Robin Hood, etc (Sort of like keeping your valuables in a cheap storage facility).
By direct registrating shares, users become 100% owners of their shares and there is no middle man involved (This would be like taking your valuables out of the cheap storage facility and putting it in your high secure vault at home where nobody else can touch them).
